Day 1

We seemed to get off on the right foot this morning, only leaving slightly later than our 8am goal. We took scenic Route 4 through VT. As we entered NY, we naively decided to drive through Binghamton to avoid Buffalo and the potential of snow. As you can see in the photos below, we were destined to run into a blizzard either way. Our days and days of checking the forecast for every city between here and Chicago was in vain. As we passed through Binghamton, we started running into some flurries. The flurries quickly changed over to whiteout conditions. We decided to pull off the highway for some dinner. When asked, the Subway guy nicely told Molly that we were supposed to have whiteout conditions all night. How did accuweather.com miss this small detail? Anyway, after calming our nerves over a $5 footlong Veggie Delight, we thought it best to try and find a hotel in a hurry. The Subway guy was then helpful in pointing us the direction of Cuba, NY. "Yeah that's right. We are between Friendship and Cuba, NY. So just head west from here and you'll be in Cuba in about 10 minutes" said the guy. Where?! So here we are, cozied up in the Econolodge in Cuba, NY. We didn't make it as far as we wanted to today, but hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow (although it's not supposed to).

Chase afraid we were leaving him this morning. Honestly he got in there himself as we were packing the final bits of our lives.

Meg and Chase eating breakfast. Notice the vast amounts of extra space in the cab.

Molly enjoying some of our snacks from one of the survival packs we received.

Lunch!

Thanks again accuweather.
